TP ferry Gouldsboro 1938.
Texas & Pacific rail ferry SS Gouldsboro operated in New Orleans, connecting their station at Annunciation and Race streets with their rail terminus on the west back at Gouldsboro yard in Algiers. For 60 years, from 1882 until 1942, the Texas & Pacific relied on ferries to carry freight and passengers between Algiers on the west bank of the Mississippi River and New Orleans. The Gouldsboro was originally built as an ironclad Union gunboat called the Chickasaw, which fought at the battle of Mobile Bay. After the war it was rebuilt as a car ferry and placed in service by the New Orleans Pacific (later the T&P) in February 1882.
